I cannot thank Hayloft Vets enough for their kind and compassionate service. We sadly had to have our lovely old Jack Russell PTS which was done at home. She was terrified of vets and they put her at ease, taking their time to make the experience stress free and peaceful, surrounded by those who loved her. Thank you Hayloft!

Hayloft Vets – A Deeply Distressing Experience I will not be using Hayloft Vets again, and I’m sharing this review so no other dog owner has to endure the stress and upset we experienced. The vet and nurse arrived at our home to administer my Labrador’s annual booster. From the moment they arrived, their approach lacked understanding, empathy, and professionalism. My dog, as expected, barked when the door was answered—a natural response to new visitors in his home. The vet immediately questioned his temperament and asked for a lead to calm him down. My dog, who is gentle and loving, calmly accepted the lead. Despite his cooperative behaviour, the vet insisted we go outside, and when my dog moved towards him in a friendly manner, he physically retreated, warning me to “get him under control” and said he didn’t want to spend his day in A&E. I reassured him that my dog wouldn’t harm him. Nonetheless, he continued with inappropriate comments implying aggression, painting my sweet-natured Labrador as a threat. What followed was a lecture on castration. I mentioned we were considering breeding him, and the vet responded bluntly that there are enough stud dogs out there and that Labradors are often euthanised due to hormone-driven aggression—especially around children. As a parent, I was horrified by these generalisations and the judgmental tone. His words felt more like scaremongering than professional advice. When it came time to give the vaccine, neither the vet nor nurse made any effort to build rapport with my dog. Instead, I was told to restrain him while the nurse came from behind, causing him to turn his head and make a sound—again, a perfectly normal reaction. The nurse then shouted “Hey!” at him. Even my son, sitting in another room, heard the outburst. What upset me most was the complete lack of compassion. They didn’t take a moment to understand my dog’s personality or to reassure him. He’s the gentlest soul—and deserved kindness, not fear-based handling. Dogs aren’t robots; they respond to energy, and unfortunately, theirs was cold and unwelcoming. I left the experience feeling shaken, saddened, and guilty for putting my dog through such tension. I will not be using Hayloft Vets again, and I sincerely hope they reconsider their approach before more dogs and owners are left feeling as we did.
