#1 Vet in Market Harborough, Leicestershire
Town & Country Veterinary Centre describes itself as an independent veterinary practice serving both pets and horses, with a purpose-built small animal site and an ambulatory equine service supported by portable diagnostic imaging. The website highlights state-of-the-art diagnostic and operating facilities, plus services such as advanced dentistry, lameness investigations, stud medicine, and pre-purchase examinations.
In the latest reviews, owners most often point to specific clinicians by name (including James, Michael, Tim, and John Abbott) and describe outcomes such as a dog being “saved” after a critical 24-hour period, and calm handling of an older dog while discussing comfort options. There is also a clear conflict in emergency-cover information: the website states a “24/365 Emergency Service,” while one recent reviewer says they don’t have 24-hour cover and that out-of-hours care involves going elsewhere.
Small animal care (pets)
Vaccinations and check-ups (explicitly mentioned in reviews and on the website)
Advanced dentistry (listed on the website)
Surgical/operating capability is implied by the website’s “diagnostic and operating facilities” (no specific procedures named in reviews)

Emergency care

A reviewer states the practice does not have 24-hour cover and that urgent out-of-hours care requires going to another provider. (This is presented as a direct contradiction between sources.)

Credited (with colleagues) with saving a dog during an acute, life-threatening episode (“came within a whisker of losing our boy… saved him”).

Been using this practice for years and always had great service. For routine and non urgent visits, I always try to book with my favourite vet, who knows us all very well. Though when ever needed to see another vet there always had excellent service. Yesterday's visit routine vaccination and check up. All excellent. Reception staff great too. Lovely large waiting room and always so clean. Shame they don't have 24 hour cover but no vets do now in Mkt Harborough, so if need urgent care out of hours need to go somewhere else. They recommend one but we did our homework and chose another we would use in an emergency that would suit us better if needed, including quicker to get there from where we live.

John has looked after my horses for over 10 years and I hold him in the highest regard. He is calm, considerate and exceptionally knowledgeable. He always takes the time to carefully explain everything he is doing and gives options when appropriate. He goes above and beyond to provide the best care to our horses. Thank you for everything John, you're the best!

Town &.Country vets are amongst the very best around. Very knowledgeable, extremely professional and very nice people in general. John Abbott came out to us today to do a vaccination and do 3 of our horses teeth. He was brilliant. My daughter Amber also wants to be a vet, John was only too happy to show her exactly what he was doing together with the issues he’d found and sorted out. Invaluable experience for a would be vet. Recently people have been complaining about the charges all vets pass to on their customers but when your vet turns up when you need them with everything on their van from portable x-ray machines, scanning equipment to blood sample diagnostic machines nobody is in a position to complain. That said, when the partners make the decision to invest heavily in their practice for your benefit there has to be a return on that investment. If your vet has to refer you, you’ll wish your vet had the same foresight as Town & Country. I couldn’t recommend them enough, we are lucky to have them looking after our horses and pets.
