#3 Vet in Kendal, Cumbria
Vets Now Kendal is part of the Vets Now network (60+ clinics) and focuses on pet emergency care, including out-of-hours and holiday cover when other practices are closed, plus video consultations. Based on reviews, the clinic often runs as a controlled-entry service (one reviewer described being asked screening questions by phone and then being buzzed in on arrival). Cases mentioned include urgent illness in a rabbit (suspected GI stasis), dogs needing emergency assessment with diagnostics, and end-of-life support where owners were given time and clear options. Experiences are mixed: many reviews describe thorough explanations and reassuring diagnostics (blood tests and a scan), while a minority describe problems at reception and a rushed, low-empathy consultation, plus billing/insurance paperwork delays.

Hopeless even trying to get past reception who couldn't even take details correctly and more interested in how I identified!

I wasn’t sure whether to leave a review or not, especially as this happened back in July. One of my rabbits stopped eating and was lethargic and hiding, (all symptoms of GI stasis) which in rabbits, this can quickly turned fatal if left untreated. I rang VetsNow and had to go through a questionnaire over the phone before heading to the clinic to be buzzed in on arrival. We got there and had to wait an hour to be seen by the one emergency vet on shift. When she did see us, it felt rushed and unsympathetic. She asked us about her eating habits and then physically examined her before weighing her, which she got us to do on the dog scales out in the main waiting room (in front of dogs that were also waiting to be seen). Took her into the back for a blood test, which came back as ok, just results seemed to be showing stress. So she prescribed us some pain killers to take home and gave her some medication to help move the gut along. It just felt like we were an inconvenience or a nuisance by being there… Her attitude wasn’t great and felt like everything was very rushed and there was no empathy towards us or our rabbit. When leaving, I paid in full (or so I thought) to claim back on my insurance. Got home and they’d sent me another invoice which they’d forgot to charge me for when I left. So I paid it online and quickly sent off the insurance documents to my company. Which they had to wait 2-3 weeks to hear back from the vets to confirm before they could reimburse me. I had to email twice to try and remind them/speed up the process, and I know my insurance company contacted them a fair few times too. Appreciate it’s the only emergency vets in Kendal, so if needs must. And I’m sure it depends on which vet you see on the day. But along with the lack of empathy, attitude and payment issues etc. it was quite a stressful experience for us

I had a very good experience when I visited with my dog. The vet was very pleasant, knowledgeable and thorough in how the dog 's problems were dealt with and explained things in a nice and easily understood way.

I can only say further to an emergency visit to Westmorland vets on Sunday 17th August our reception by Tracy was 2nd to none. Efficient and sympathetic she made us feel more at ease with the situation we found ourselves in. Throughout the examination the vet who examined Thomas (my 4 year old border collie) was calming, gentle and a credit to her trade. Hopefully we won't have to visit again but if the circumstances arose we would feel that we were in good hands. Thank you to you both.

We received excellent, thorough and compassionate care from the VetNow. A big thank you to the whole team, especially Jo, Chantal, and Scott, who provided us with really sound advice that really helped improve the quality of our beloved pup’s final days.

We lost our dearly beloved 5 year old Bulldog Pebbles today leaving a massive void in our family. Amanda was really supportive demonstrating professionalism and compassion. She gave me the time to say goodbyes and when I was ready gave me the options I needed. If you read this Amanda, know that I am very grateful.

Excellent emergency vets - both Jack & Lucy were friendly and efficient. They treated our Cocker Spaniel sympathetically and after blood tests and a scan were able to reassure us quite quickly that his condition wasn't as serious as first feared. We were extremely grateful to them both.
