Staveley Vets describes itself as an independent small‑animal practice. Reviews add concrete examples of same/next‑day procedures (a chest cyst diagnosed and drained/operated on with the dog home the same day) and detailed communication (owners being given step‑by‑step instructions over the phone during an urgent illness, plus follow-up calls with updates and photos during an overnight stay). Multiple reviewers also mention clear, upfront cost estimates before treatment.

Excellent Vets and practice. Harry, my 3 year old Cocker Spaniel had a large cyst on his chest.I took him into Staveley Vets two days before Christmas. The vet diagnosed the problem and booked him in to have the cyst drained the following day and worked out the estimated cost. The day before Christmas Eve he was operated on and came home the same day. The two vets, Sue and James couldn't have been more caring, professional and efficient. As were the practice nurses and reception staff. The important thing about this practice is that all the vets are independents, working together. Four out of Five Veterinary practices today are part of large business combines, who over the past 10 years have bought up practices as vets retire.Their profits pay shareholders, which is reflected in their charges.I left a previous practice when I realised this and sought out an independent Vets. I couldn't recommend Staveley Vets too highly.

RUDE beyond belief practice manager. I made an appointment for new pup to have first vaccination and older dog to register as have just moved to Shirebrook. She called me 2 hours before my appointment to cancel on the basis that old vet hasn't sent the medical records from my older dog. I told her this is because I need to call them to authorise and she said it didn't matter it 'raises alarm bells' so rudely cancelled regardless. Old vet sent records 2 minutes later, no matter the won't see me!! I am beyond upset. They implied I don't pay my vet bills when it was just because I moved and needed to authorise for data protection. I have never been so insulted in. my entire life. How dare this woman speak to me this way! SO SO ANGRY. AVOID

I had to contact Staveley vets in an emergency last night when my little dog became very unwell, very quickly. The vet answered the phone straight away and gave me really detailed instructions on what to do and how to get to the surgery. My vet practice is part of the group but isn’t immediately local,I’m not familiar with the area and this was a huge help in my panic. As soon as we arrived Katie was absolutely amazing, she explained everything thoroughly and was very calm and reassuring. I left my little dog and Katie rang me every couple of hours with updates and even sent me photos when my dog was feeling better.Teabag had to stay in overnight but I just knew that she would be cared for and in very good hands. To have vet so caring, both about me and my dog was priceless. I was able to collect her less than 24 hours after being admitted and Katie once again explained all the treatment that Teabag had had, gave me full explanations about what to do,medication etc once we got home. I seriously cannot believe how well cared for we both were. And the cost wasn’t half as bad as I expected(Katie even said if I struggled with the insurance company,to ring and she would support my claim!). I cannot thank her enough…..the whole experience was really scary but Katie made things so much better. Vet in a million…..I hope her boss reads this and already knows what a gem she is….🙏

We've sadly lost one of our spaniels recently and the Vets at Staveley, Ravensdale and Shirebrook went above and beyond to support her and us, particularly James and Sabrina. Also had issues with our remaining spaniels eye and again they have gone above and beyond to make sure she gets the right diagnosis and treatment. Staff always friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble - Esme spent nearly an hour with her and took time to go and consult textbooks and someone with more specific expertise before deciding a treatment path. Always happy to support anxious owners with their endless questions too! Thankfully to have this place locally 🐾

Came here in an emergency with bunny rabbit. The young vet (didn't look older than 20!) was extremely proficient and professional. She demonstrated empathy for us and was so careful and gentle with bunny. She was very calm, and while obviously busy (there were pet dogs and their humans waiting to be seen and treated), she demonstrated skill and authority to put us at our ease. While no one wants to go to a vet in an emergency, if needed I would go here again. First class service.

Staff are nice but we only see the vet Catherine Williams now as she's been the best with our pets and goes above and beyond to help. She knows her stuff and will take time to help you understand what's going on and what options there are. Highly recommended

An amazing vets. We have just started going here as they was highly recommended to us and being a family with lots of different animals such as reptiles and dogs we took a chance and changed our vets. They was very informative, gave us our options in full details and the cost upfront none of this you need to come in before we can give you a price. They are affordable and you can clearly tell all the vets and receptionist care about the animals and the well being. They are not judgemental in anyway too just want what is best for your animal. ( I say this as most of our reptiles we take in as rescues and get a few avoidable illnesses that they got prior to us taking them into our care)

Went into this vet with my presa canario mastiff breed last week, he is a very friendly 10 month old puppy and just wanted to say hello to everyone. Bearing in mind he went in only for a health check, we were met with a very rude vet who treated him as if he was a dangerous dog! She said most of them get nasty and will need to be put down by the age of 2……..She also stated about the type of training collar he was wearing saying it was abuse! I don’t know if she knows what abuse is! There are dogs being neglected and dying and she is so opinionated about my dogs collar? I didn’t ask for her opinion! I asked for a health check! She didn’t once interact with him even though he was kissing her, she treated him like he was a danger. totally different to how they normally treat my two smaller dogs!!! If you have a large breed dog I would stay away from this vets as they will not treat you nicely. I think she must forget that she is a vet, not a trainer or a behaviourist, she obviously doesn’t own big dogs so doesn’t know their requirements or just believes that they are all innately aggressive.
