Bridge Veterinary Group is a small-animal practice established in 1986 and part of the CVS Group (per its website). The website lists a broad “general practice” set-up (consultations, surgery, diagnostics, dentistry, nurse clinics), with out-of-hours emergencies directed to MiNightVet.
From the latest reviews available to us, owners often describe clear explanations and being kept informed (including during diagnostic work such as X‑rays). There are also serious complaints from a small number of reviewers about communication and monitoring in complex cases—specifically around chronic kidney disease blood results not being discussed and concerns after major surgery (including a stated £3,000 estimate for an intestinal operation).

Dawn was an exceptional veterinary nurse who had excellent knowledge & was able to give me, what I considered, good advice. She was calm & patient with my two nervous cats & extremely thorough with the examinations. Dawn, in my opinion, is an asset to the practice.

Our 16-year-old dog Alfie was a long-term patient at this practice with multiple conditions including chronic kidney disease. He passed away on 1 January 2026, and while I accept he was elderly with complex health issues, I have significant concerns about aspects of his care that I believe other pet owners should be aware of. Alfie was on a renal diet for six months and simultaneously prescribed Metacam, an NSAID with known kidney risks. When pre-surgical bloodwork in November 2025 showed his kidney values had risen to nearly 2.5 times normal, we were not informed of this deterioration. No follow-up monitoring was arranged, no treatment escalation was discussed, and no reassessment of the Metacam prescription occurred. When he became unwell in early December, we specifically suggested bloodwork. This was declined on the basis that bloods had been taken three weeks earlier;—the very bloods showing the concerning results. Four days later, he presented in catastrophic kidney failure. The intensive care he received during his December hospitalisation was attentive, and individual staff members were caring. However, there were concerning inconsistencies in communication between team members about his medical history during this critical period. A word to other pet owners: If your animal has a chronic condition such as kidney disease, particularly if they are also on medications that can affect the kidneys or liver, please be proactive in requesting regular monitoring bloodwork and ask to be informed of any changes in results. If you request tests and are told they are unnecessary, ask for the clinical reasoning and consider seeking a second opinion. Do not assume that no news means stable condition. We wish we had pushed harder on 12 December; it might have made a difference. I have raised a formal complaint and am awaiting their response.

My boy Min went for X-rays. Even though I was quite nervous leaving him. He was well and truly looked after by the team. I was very informed on his issues and what the next steps are. I don’t trust a lot of people with him as he’s my baby.. but I can’t thank the team enough for looking after him. He’s home and upstairs sleeping today off. Thank you again. Very glad I moved over to this vets

I took my dog Archie to Bridge Vets Stranton,he was suffering from Diarrhoea he had a blood test and he went to Middlesbrough for a Ultrasound Scan,I was told he had a Adenocarcinoma cancer of the intestines,I was given 3 choices, take him to Wear Referals,do nothing and put him on steroids but he would eventually Die within 10 months or they could give him an operation to try and remove the mass, but it would cost £3000,we decided Archie needed the chance to live longer so we went with the operation. What we weren’t told was that there was a chance that Archie could(would) develop an infection that could kill him in hours,he should have been kept in Middlesbrough for 24 hours after the operation for observation because of the risk of infection. He was released 7 hours later in a comatosed,I was told he would be like that for 48 hours. The next day we rang Middlesbrough because we were worried he was drinking vast amounts of water and bringing it back up,they said he could be like that for 48 hours. My Archie didn’t live 48 hours,he died 36 hours after the Operation.apart from the Diarrhoea Archie showed no symptoms of Cancer. He was living his best life and was full of energy,we wish we had gone for the steroids and upto to 10 months with him. We sent a complaint to Bridge Vets and were sent a Fabricated disgusting email back making out his symptoms sound worse than they actually were to cover there backs. Please use our experience as a guide to your choice of treatment for your beloved pet and please ask lots of questions.

Outstanding service by a vet who cares more about the animals he's treating, than the money he's making.

Couldn’t recommend enough! I had an emergency with my dog today and didn’t have him registered at any vets. After calling every other vet in Hartlepool and been told they couldn’t help as I couldn’t pay there and then, bridge vets where the only ones to not only offer an appointment but to work out a payment plan for us. All the staff are so caring, helpful and so friendly! Couldn’t thank them enough for all the help today!
