Clifton Lodge Veterinary Group is a long-established practice (the website says it has cared for pets since 1950) and offers 24/7 digital vet support via a partnership with VidiVet. In recent reviews, owners describe smooth day-to-day care such as anxious-dog handling (“gave her time”), repeat prescriptions/medication being ready to collect, and follow-up appointments being booked at the end of visits. One recent review raises serious concerns about an alleged misdiagnosis and pressure to euthanise, while another complains about high quoted costs for cat gingivitis treatment and a scan—suggesting experiences can vary depending on the case (and, per one reviewer, possibly the vet seen).

Severe Diagnostic Errors and Unnecessary Pressure for Euthanasia. I am writing this to warn other pet owners to be extremely cautious. My experience with this clinic has been deeply distressing due to what I believe was a major diagnostic oversight and premature pressure to end my dog's life. Diagnostic Failure: My dog was diagnosed here with "end-stage liver failure." However, after seeking further advice, it became clear that his blood protein levels were perfectly normal—something that is medically inconsistent with a failing liver. Because of this incorrect focus, we spent weeks on expensive "liver" diets and supplements while his actual underlying condition was ignored. Premature Euthanasia Pressure: I was told my dog would not survive the night and was pressured to euthanize him immediately. I refused. The very next morning, he woke up with a full appetite, a great mood, and wanted to play. Their "imminent death" prognosis was completely wrong, and if I had listened, I would have lost my best friend for no reason. Lack of Transparency: When I raised concerns about these contradictions and requested specific heart-support medications that are standard for his symptoms, the clinic refused to cooperate without demanding further expensive tests to cover their previous mistakes. They also refused to provide details on the specific qualifications of the attending vet when asked. If your pet has a complex condition, please get a second opinion. This clinic’s "tunnel vision" and fatalistic advice nearly cost my dog his life.

My dog is very anxious but the staff really gave her time and looked after her. I had ordered medication that was ready for us as we left and her next appointment booked Really lovely even though my dog was grumpy!

We have always taken our dogs to Clifton Lodge so when we got our new puppy it was a no brainer to go back. Facilities are spotlessly clean and all the staff are friendly and helpful.

Great service provided from staff. Very helpful with puppy registration and a very friendly and caring approach. So glad we chose here rather than other practices in our area

Tried to rip my Mother off. Told her she needs to start saving up because it’ll cost her £1000 for a treatment for her cat’s Gingivitis! And £300 for a scan. Some of the vets there seem better than others though.

Took my dog for his yearly check up, injections, represcription and a review of an ear problem. We saw Danny the vet and nothing was too much trouble. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable and treated us both with respect. Booked a follow up for May with the lovely staff in reception too. Always a pleasure to visit here.
