#3 Vet in Morpeth, Northumberland
Alnorthumbria Vets is a long-established mixed practice (established 1897) treating small animals as well as equine and farm animals, and it’s also listed as a veterinary nurse training facility. The practice states it provides 24-hour emergency care via an on-call service staffed by their usual team of vets.
In recent reviews, owners describe being seen quickly for urgent concerns (such as a new lump) and having options discussed without pressure toward expensive diagnostics; one owner specifically mentions choosing pain management and avoiding unnecessary treatment that would not improve quality of life. Experiences are mixed, though: there are also complaints about record accuracy affecting insurance and a serious allegation involving a vaccine being given to an unwell puppy during a student nurse appointment without a vet examination.

I brought my dog to the vet for a lump, I told the vet she had it 1 and half months to 2 months, she put in her notes I said 3 - 4 months she had it and know I can not get my pet insurance to pay as she has lied about what I said to her

We have been with this practice for around 20yr and always had between 2 and 4 dogs which I think speaks volumes. We like all the vets but clinical director Jo instills confidence and calm with us which goes along way in keeping us here.

I used this vet for the first time this week (Morpeth branch), because I couldn't get my dog seen by the pdsa anymore cause I no longer live in the catchment. I found a lump, I knew it was probably not going to be good news, so needed her seen as soon as possible. From my first call with the receptionist, to the vet appointment the next day, my experience with them was amazing. I was too emotional to remember the name of the vet I saw, but the lady who saw pearl on Wednesday the 23 Oct, was so lovely, we had a chat about the lump her symptoms/behaviour etc... At no point did I feel rushed, dismissed or pressured into paying for an expensive biopsy, all options were offered and discussed, and had the prognosis been a 50/50 chance I would have paid for it, but it wasn't, all things considered I made the decision to take my girl home with pain management for the half term so my me and my kids could take this week to say our goodbyes and not put her through unnecessary treatments that would prolong her life, but not improve her quality of life. Loosing a pet is never easy, having to make a decision like I've had to is so difficult because you'll always have a bit of guilt and question your decision. Your vet was so compassionate and supportive, without any judgement, I left heartbroken, but certian that I was doing the best thing for my baby girl. So thank you for not only seeing my girl so quickly, but for making a difficult time just that little bit more bearable. If/when we get another pet, I will definitely be registering them with your practice.

Recently joined this vet group to look after our new puppy. Very nice staff. Lovely area for waiting. Really pleased.

We recently brought our puppy in for a vaccine appointment who was suffering from severe diarrhoea, we raised our concerns to the student nurse Beth Stephenson who was taking the appointment. Beth took several attempts to take our puppies temperature being unable to get the thermometer inside our very calm puppy. Even though she struggled to take the temperature she and the clinical director Jo decided our puppy was well enough to have the vaccine even though a qualified vet never inspected our puppy. The whole appointment was a shambles and within 48 hours she was hospitalised for 24 hours in the Alnwick branch. Every vet and professional we have spoken to since have said this was a major error to give the vaccine when she was unwell and she should have been inspected further. They have since been defensive and extremely unhelpful. If you value your puppy and their safety I would highly recommend staying away from this practice. Given the other reviews about the treatment of puppy’s this doesn’t seem to be an isolated incident.

Our pup had an infection after her spay and had to spend a couple of nights hospitalised. The care she had was second-to-none and you can see how much the team care for their patients in how delighted they were with her recovery. Thanks to each and every one of you.

This review has taken me 6 months to write, during what can only be described as one of the worst days of my life, my beautiful best friend was put to rest. The vet was brilliant caring and took the time we needed as an unexpected good bye that I wasn’t prepared for, I know in her last moments my dog trusted the vet. The care afterwards was also very kind and caring I was contacted to keep me up to date with the processes to ensure I got my best friends ashes back to where she belonged! I cannot thank the team for the compassion and care - as heartbroken as I still am I appreciate the effort and understanding that was shown during such a difficult time.
