Ayres Veterinary Centre is a small-animal practice established in 1973 and part of the CVS Group (CVS Vets). The clinic offers routine care (check-ups, vaccinations, parasite control) alongside practical add-ons such as nurse consultations, grooming/nail clips and home visits, and it states it can handle emergencies in-hours with out-of-hours arrangements via Ayres Veterinary Hospital and Alnorthumbria Veterinary Group. It’s accredited to RCVS Core Standards.
From the latest reviews, many owners describe straightforward appointments (including “no waiting” on arrival) and vets who explain treatment clearly and answer questions. One review strongly disagrees with that experience, describing rough handling of an excitable dog and being told to “go see someone else,” alongside concerns about communication and continuity of seeing the same vet.

Worst vet! Been with them for nearly a year and all the vet I’ve seen so far had been good apart from the recent visit was with the black lady (name unknown) on the 30th May at 09:50. My boy has red eyes so we decided to see the vet on the day. Once we arrived he was very excited and she asked us to take him in immediately. The door hadn’t even been closed and my husband hadn’t been in. She started her examination and started grabbing his mount/pull his ears (also kept calling him as a she). Once I’ve asked her why would you pull him like that… you can let him relax a bit. (Of course like other vets do). She then said if you don’t like it go see someone else. She ended up saying his eye is not as bad as last time (when she wasn’t the one who looked at his eye last time and that eye was the right one - this time is left eye) and it obviously way worst, he woke up couldn’t open his eye because of the green boogey. She then tried to get us do the last vaccination even though she told us to go somewhere else. The other vets understand the dog behaviour fine. Said hi to him and let him calm down. If you have a dog like mine which is very excited and can be nippy, avoid this lady… or else you would get told to go somewhere else. We registered to this place because of the vet called Anthony because he was the best and calmest one. If you see him, you’re in a good hand. Please keep in mind that the vets are relocating so you might not see the same one in each of your appointment. Not going back again.

Excellent Veterinary practice. Very caring and friendly staff. Any treatment that may be necessary is well explained and the welfare of your pet is paramount. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Ayres to anyone.

Visiting the vets is sometimes not the nicest experience, especially for your furry little friends, but the staff at Ayres Vet are fantastic and are amazing at making the experience the best it can be. Highly recommend this veterinary practice.

Have been with Ayres for years, but this was our new puppys first visit. Easy and straightforward to make the appointment, no waiting on day of appointment. Vet Anthony, gave lots of additional information, and was more than happy to answer questions I had, advised if had any concerns or queries just to phone the practice for advice. Would highly recommend.

We have been with this practice for about 10 years and I can say without doubt they are brilliant. The receptionists are friendly and very attentive to animals and their owners . All of the vets are first class in both their expertise and advice. My dogs Danny and Seth love them . Wouldn't go anywhere else, highly recommended
